The Bulgarian film “Bubblegum” participates in the 34th European Film Festival in Amman
On November 19, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. in Haya Cultural Center in Amman the presentation of the Bulgarian film Bubblegum (2017, dir. Stanislav Todorov) took place as part of the traditional annual European Film Festival in Jordan, organized with the support of the EU and the European Union National Institutes for Culture - EUNIC.
This year’s 34th edition was scheduled in November 13-25. It features 16 films from EU member states - Belgium, France, Italy, Cyprus, Romania, Germany, Poland, and others, as well as a film production of Jordan.
The presentation of the Bulgarian film, screened in Bulgarian with Arabic and English subtitles, aroused the interest of a diverse audience - diplomats, local citizens, Europeans, people from the art world, and young people.
Ambassador Dimitar Mihailov greeted the audience and the organizers from the European and Jordanian sides. In his speech, he emphasized that it is an honor and pleasure for Bulgaria to participate in the 34th European Film Festival in Jordan and thanked the kind hosts from EUNIC-Jordan and the EU Delegation in Jordan for the opportunity to show the merits of contemporary Bulgarian cinema.
Bubblegum is a romantic drama that very accurately describes the childhood and the peculiarities of the life of an ordinary Bulgarian in the 80s of the last century, but it is also a kind of bridge to present times. "I hope that the film will immerse you in this reality and that you will be able to discover common values, convictions and understandings about the dynamics of our lives", noted Ambassador Mihailov before the screening of the Bulgarian film.
Reviews of the Bulgarian film for this year show that it was determined by the audience as one of the three most impactful and valuable within the festival, which is indicative of the worthy representation of Bulgaria at the international film event in Jordan. The production participated in the event with the assistance of the State Institute for Cultural at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
