Participation of the Bulgarian film

As part of the 35th edition of the traditional European Film Festival in Canada, in the period 16-18 November 2020, the Bulgarian film "Attraction" (2018) by screenwriters Yana Marinova, Borislav Zahariev and Georgi Angelov, and director Martin was screened. Makariev. The festival is an annual tradition and prestigious event in Canada, which successfully presents the film art of the EU member states to Canadian audiences. For another year, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa organized the participation of our country in the annual edition - which due to the specific situation following the pandemic of COVID-19 is held for the first time virtually and is available throughout Canada.

The event is organized by the EU Delegation in Ottawa, the Canadian Film Institute, The Cinematheque in Vancouver and the European Film Festival in Toronto, together with the embassies of the EU member states. Films from all 27 EU member states will be screened as part of the festival.

Prior to the premiere of the Bulgarian film in Canada, a video greeting was broadcast to the audience by the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski. The screenwriter of the film, who plays the main role in it, Yana Marinova and the actress Luiza Grigorova-Makariev also sent messages to the audience.

The film's fresh plot traces the spicy side of school life, presenting the complex relationships between teachers and students in their teens, the interaction of strong personalities, outstanding characters and the inevitable power of love. The main roles in the film are played by the famous Bulgarian actors Yana Marinova, Luiza Grigorova, Radina Borshosh, Koyna Ruseva, Vlado Penev.

After the screening, the spectators, representatives of the Bulgarian community and Canadian officials shared in personal conversations with representatives of the embassy their pleasant impressions of the Bulgarian film, wishing for future success of Bulgarian cinema.
