The State Institute for Culture Supported the Construction of a Monument to the Bulgarians Killed in the Sinking of the Ship "Ilinden"

The Bulgarian Ambassador to the Republic of Northern Macedonia Angel Angelov unveiled today in Ohrid a monument to the fifteen Bulgarians killed in the sinking of the Ilinden ship on September 5, 2009. The monument was built with funds from the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.

At the opening ceremony, Ambassador Angelov stressed that the new monument in Ohrid is a work of art worthy of respect, as well as a symbol reminiscent of the tragedy, which is part of the common history of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia.

Wreaths and flowers were also laid by the director of the State Institute for Culture Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, the Consul General in Bitola Dimitar Ivanov, the Deputy Mayor of Ohrid Risto Nikoleski, representatives of the Port Administration, the Rotary Club - Ohrid, the civil associations "5 and September ”,“ Ivan Mihailov ”,“ Horizons ”and others.
