South-East Europe Cinema Days

South-East Europe Cinema Days is a project of the State Institute for Culture of MFA, part of its programme Culture of the Regions. It is also part of the cultural programme within the framework of the Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office (July 1, 2015 – June, 30, 2016) of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and is dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of SEECP.

 

For a week, at G8 Cultural Center , there will be shown twelve different films from Southeast Europe countries. The programme of the festival is prepared in cooperation with the embassies in Sofia of the countries participating in SEECP in Sofia. The objective is to present contemporary cinema as a powerful tool of cultural diplomacy, an instrument that has recently gained even bigger popularity among institutions involved in the intercultural interaction and dialogue.

 

The one-week film festival in Sofia is going to present to the public movies that have already gained the great interest of a wide audience like romantic comedy Love Loves Coincidences by Ömer Faruk Sorak and What Is a Man without a Moustache? By Hrvoje Hribar, as well movies by the youngest generation of artists from countries from Western part of the region. Some of them have already received recognition in international film festivals, as for example No One’s Child by Vuk Rsumovic, Our Everyday Life by Ines Tanovic, Lazar by Svetozar Ristovski. A selection of short films from Montenegro will be presented as well.
 The programme will be officially opened on 12-th of April with the film Birthday Celebration or a Silent Balkan Story by Photos Lambrinos. It is a film that pays tribute to all known and unknown film artists from the region – authors, writers, broadcasters, operators, film projectionists and stage masters.


 

The Balkan Documentary Center will present its program DISCOVERIES for young filmmakers from the region, whose work is in the field of documentary film.
