26/06/25

On July 2, 2025 (Wednesday), a public meeting-discussion on the topic “Greece's culture is far more than the Acropolis” will be held in the Ivan Geshov Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Special guest and lecturer will be H.E. Alexios Marios Liberopoulos, Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to Bulgaria.

The event is part of a series of initiatives dedicated to cultural diplomacy in Bulgaria and the Balkans, implemented within the framework of the scientific project “Cultural Diplomacy in the Balkans in the 20th and 21st Centuries: Achievements, Problems, Challenges for the Future”, funded by the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science.

The organizer of the project is the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Center for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBCT-BAS) in institutional partnership with the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting is also being held in cooperation with the Embassy of Greece in Bulgaria.

The State Institute for Culture actively participates in the series of discussions on the project, and has so far participated in public meetings with the participation of representatives of Poland, Albania, Slovenia and France, thereby reinforcing its commitment to cultural diplomacy and sustainable international cooperation in the region.

The event is expected to be opened by Senior Asst. Dr. Alexandra Milanova – Project Manager, Prof. Dr. Rumyana Preshlenova – Director of IBCT–BAS and Ms. Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova – Director of the State Institute for Culture. During the meeting, H.E. Liberopoulos will present a more in-depth look at contemporary Greek culture beyond the well-known symbols and will outline the country's priorities and vision in the field of cultural policy and international cultural exchange.

The series of events traditionally attract the academic community, representatives of cultural institutions and diplomats, as well as a wide audience interested in the cultural dynamics in the region.
