The Film “Flying with Fins” about Alzek Misheff to Open Doc-Art-Fest in Berlin
On October 31, 2024, at 6:00 pm, the Bulgarian Documentary Cinema Week "Doc-Art-Fest" will kick off at the Brotfabrik Cinema in Berlin. The week-long series of screenings of Bulgarian documentary films is organized under the patronage of H.E. Grigor Porozhanov, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Germany. The festival will open with the film “Flying with Fins” about the artist, rebel, and experimentalist Alzek Misheff, which presents a unique journey through the world of art and life.
Directed by Maria Averina, the film explores the creative search for meaning through scenes from Italy and Bulgaria, showcasing paintings, performances, electronic music experiments in historic settings, and poignant reunions with people and places in Bulgaria after 50 years of separation. “Flying with Fins” was awarded the prize of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the 2024 "Master of Art" festival.
Director Maria Averina, a graduate of New Bulgarian University, brings experience from prestigious forums like the Sarajevo Talent Campus and Berlinale Talent Campus and holds a master’s degree in documentary film from the University of London. She won the Bulgarian Film Academy award for best documentary with her debut feature, “From Cremona to Cremona”.
Throughout the festival week, Bulgarian documentary films about art and artists will be shown daily, each “opening a box of memories” and offering a unique look into creative life that encourages reflection for viewers. Screenings are free, but due to limited seating, advance registration is required by email at [email protected] or by phone at 030 4714001.
