First Bulgarian Edition of the “One World” Documentaries Festival

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affaires Ivaylo Kalfin was the honorary patron of the International documentaries festival on the theme of human rights “One World”. The first Bulgarian edition of the festival was held from 7 to 11 May 3008 in Sogia. The patron of the Czech event and president of the Czech republic Vaclav Havel, president Peter Stoyanov, Prof. Krikor Azaryan, the writer Orhan Pamuk and others sit on the honorary board of the festival. The event is organized by the Lumena Association with the support of the Czech Cultural Centre and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Sofia.

The festival started 10 years ago in the Czech republic with the support of Vaclav Havel and under the initiative of the “Man in risk” Foundation which promoted civil education and provides assistance for development. Currently, the festival is held in the Check Republic, Germany, Slovakia, USA, Poland, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc.

The “One World” edition in Bulgaria features a selection of the finest movies presented within the international edition during the past 5 years.

Screenings and discussions within the festival will be held at the Czech cultural centre, Dom na kinoto, the French Cultural Institute, hall “Bulgaria – Korea” (National Palace of Culture) and the Polish Institute. 50 documentaries are included in the programme and are aimed at children and adults. Films are divided into categories: “Freedom of expression”, :Lessons on Democracy”, “Female voices”, “ Tolerant, intolerant”, “Human dignity”, “Globalization - losers, winners” and “Movies for students”.
