24/11/10
A joint photo exhibition of monuments of culture in Bulgaria and in Cyprus, which are included in the Unesco World Heritage List, opened on 15 November 2010 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and Cyprus. The Bulgarian exhibition is part of the Travelling Exhibitions Project of the State Institute for Culture with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and is shown to the Cypriot public for the first time.

The photo exhibition was opened by H.E. Mr. Andreas Demetriou, Minister of Education and Culture of Cyprus, and Ambassador Vesselin Valchev. Minister Demetriou singled out the evident spiritual closeness that has existed between the two nations throughout centuries. In his address, Ambassador Valchev highlighted the fifty years of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Cyprus, and Bulgaria’s contribution to the development of human civilisation and world culture.

The opening of the exhibition and the reception on that occasion were attended by ambassadors from 22 countries, the Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Bishop Gregorios of Mesaoria, ministers, members of the Parliament, heads of cultural institutes and foundations in Cyprus, representatives of the Union of Bulgarians, of The Bulgarian Newspaper, and teachers at the Bulgarian schools.

The exhibition was organised by the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO and the Bulgarian Embassy, with the support of the national carrier Bulgaria Air.
