02/04/25

On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) and the International Day for the Protection of Cultural Monuments - April 18, the exhibition "Bulgaria and the Mosaics" from the "Traveling Exhibitions" program of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs will be presented in the UNWE building.

The exhibition, realized by the Balkan Heritage Foundation for the State Institute for Culture in 2023, will be exhibited in the central lobby of the UNWE from April 7 to 11, 2025. It presents the rich mosaic heritage of Bulgaria through details of ancient, medieval and modern mosaics created by different cultures over the last two millennia.

In the context of the partnership between the State Institute for Culture and the UNWE, special emphasis will be placed on the wall interior mosaic "Man and Society", the work of the artist Valentina Dukova, which will also be included in the exhibition. The author shares that her aspiration was to create a work that evokes associations of space, light and movement, symbolizing the connection between man and society, dynamics and balance, as well as the achievement of harmony through science. The mosaic was realized under the supervision of Prof. Toma Varbanov and is a donation to the University.

The exhibition "Bulgaria and the Mosaics" has visited various parts of the world, including Norway, Hungary and Tunisia, and includes two components - printed and digital. The printed one consists of 26 panels, and each panel contains a QR code referring to the digital part of the exhibition. The online platform provides additional information about the presented objects, their location, as well as about the institutions that contributed to the preservation and popularization of mosaic art in Bulgaria.

The exhibition aims to draw attention to the significance of mosaic art as part of Bulgaria's cultural heritage and to inspire broader public interest in its study and preservation.
