Opening of the Tenth Anniversary Edition of the Project "Poetry in the Metro"
On November 18, 2025, Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., the tenth anniversary edition of the project "Poetry in the Metro" will be opened at the Polish Institute in Sofia - an initiative that has been presenting European poetry in the carriages and stations of the Sofia metro.
The project will be presented by Ms. Malgorzata Hejduk-Gromek, Director of the Polish Institute in Sofia, and Prof. Amelia Licheva, Editor-in-Chief of "Literary Gazette". Representatives of the institutions and embassies participating in this year's edition will read the included works in their original languages.
The anniversary edition includes poems from 25 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Hungary, Finland, France, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. The Bulgarian participation this year is by the poet Lyudmila Mindova and is proposed by the State Institute for Culture and "Literaturen Vestnik".
The poetry will be presented from November 18 to December 15, 2025 in the carriages of the Sofia metro and at the metro stations: Serdika, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Vasil Levski Stadium, Vitosha, James Boucher, European Union, National Palace of Culture, Serdika II, Lion's Bridge, Central Railway Station, Princess Maria Luisa, Khan Kubrat, Nadezhda and Beli Dunav.
The project "Poetry in the Metro" was initiated in 2016 by the Polish Institute in Sofia and "Literaturen Vestnik", and its tenth edition is being implemented with the support of a wide range of partners: the Austrian Embassy, the Embassy of Belgium, the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Goethe-Institut, the Embassy of Greece, the Embassy of Denmark, the Cervantes Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute, the Embassy of Ireland, the Embassy of Lithuania in Bucharest, the Embassy of Luxembourg in Prague, the Camois Institute, the Embassy of Norway, the British Council, the Embassy of Romania, the Cultural Center of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Embassy of Slovakia, the Embassy of Slovenia, the Embassy of Ukraine, the Liszt Institute, the Embassy of Finland, the French Institute, the Czech Center, the Embassy of Switzerland, the Sofia Municipality and "Metropolitan" EAD.
