Exhibition of the State Institute for Cultuel Featured in the Program of the 47th UNESCO Session in Paris
The 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, chaired by Bulgaria, has begun at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. All sessions and cultural events will take place from July 6 to 16, 2025. The official opening was marked by welcoming speeches from Minister of Culture Marian Bachev and Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, along with other distinguished guests.
During the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, led by Prof. Nikolay Nenov —a renowned scholar, ethnologist, and historian, and Director of the Regional History Museum in Ruse**—representatives from the 194 member states of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention will discuss a record number of case files.
As part of the accompanying cultural program, delegates of the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will have the opportunity to view the mobile exhibition "Ancient Treasures of Bulgaria," part of the State Cultural Institute’s "Mobile Exhibitions" program. The exhibition was developed by a team of scholars from the Institute of Balkan Studies with Center of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and is a collaborative project under a strategic agreement with the State Cultural Institute. Thanks to this partnership, the exhibition has already been successfully presented at various programs of Bulgarian diplomatic missions worldwide, as well as at cultural and educational institutions in London, Oslo, Stockholm, Warsaw, Prague, Islamabad, Lagos, Abuja, Mexico City, and others, as well as in Bulgaria within museum festivals and programs.
The exhibition is part of the National Scientific Program "Development of Bulgarian Studies Abroad", led by Dr. Alexandra Milanova, Senior Assistant Professor. It features 26 panels displaying photographs of exquisitely crafted gold and silver artifacts of exceptional historical value—precious vessels, jewelry, weapons, and other artifacts discovered on the territory of present-day Bulgaria. Among them are masterpieces from the world-famous Panagyurishte Treasure, as well as artifacts from the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis (5th millennium BC), the Borovo, Vulchitrun, Letnitsa, Rogozen, and other treasures. The showcased items are priceless testimonies to the high artistic achievements of antiquity, astounding with their remarkable ornamentation and elegance.
The exhibition will be on display in the public space of UNESCO’s Paris headquarters until the end of July.
