The Exhibition "Bulgaria and Mosaics" Visits the University of National and World Economy the on the Occasion of 105th Anniversary of the University
On April 7, 2025, the official opening of the exhibition "Bulgaria and Mosaics" took place at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), organized by the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The event, which is part of the celebrations marking the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the UNWE, brought together representatives of the academic, cultural and diplomatic community.
The exhibition was opened by the Rector of the UNWE, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, who noted that "the interaction between education, history and culture is of exceptional importance for the development of a critically thinking society connected to its roots".
After his speech, Ms. Vessela Aleksieva, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Book Association, took the floor, emphasizing the importance of cultural policies in contemporary education. “This exhibition is living proof that books and culture can be not only guardians of knowledge, but also a bridge between generations,” she said, addressing the students and professors in the hall.
A special guest was Prof. Petar Stojanovic – historian, former Minister of Culture and university professor, who expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to participate in the opening and emphasized the importance of mosaics as cultural testimonies: “Mosaics are more than decorative images – they are authentic stories about the values, spirituality and taste of entire eras.”
Ms. Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, Director of the State Institute for Culture, expressed congratulations from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, and emphasized: "The interaction between the UNWE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is developing not only through the implementation of a number of open doors for visits and internship programs, but also with similar joint initiatives, such as the exhibition "Bulgaria and the Mosaics. The exhibition is a new narrative, placing important accents on the historical past, which is a reflection of the way of life, the talent, the social status of people throughout the centuries. It was presented in Rome, Budapest, Norway, Slovakia and Tunisia."
The event was also attended by Mr. Ivan Vassilev, Chairman of the the Balkan Heritage Foundation, a partner in the implementation of the exhibition. He emphasized that the foundation works to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Balkans and that the “Bulgaria and the Mosaics” project is an example of a successful model of cultural collaboration.
The “Bulgaria and Mosaics” exhibition is realized by the Balkan Heritage Foundation for the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria in 2023 in cooperation with Bulgarian museums, non-profit organizations and specialists in the field of art history and archaeology. It presents a rich collection of photographs and materials dedicated to the ancient and medieval mosaics discovered on the territory of Bulgaria. The exhibition was recently enriched with the interior wall mosaic "Man and Society", a work by artist Valentina Dukova and donated to the UNWE. The project is part of a broader initiative for the international promotion of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage.
The exhibition will remain available to visitors in the lobby of the UNWE until April 11, 2025 inclusive.
