The State Institute for Culture is a Partner in the Screening of the New Documentary Film "Uprooted"

27/01/25

In the month that begins with the Day of Gratitude and Remembrance for the Victims of the Communist Regime, a special screening of the new documentary film "Uprooted" will take place on February 5 at 5:00 PM at Odeon Cinema. The film is a production of VIP Media Film and is presented in partnership with the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the State Archives Agency, the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski," and Rotary Club Sofia.

The film narrates the dramatic family story of Prof. Dimitar Atanasov – a U.S.-educated scientist with significant contributions to global science – and his multinational family, who devoted their lives to building Bulgaria between the two World Wars. Through the fate of Prof. Atanasov and his relatives, the film highlights the stories of hundreds of members of Bulgaria’s intellectual elite who fell victim to the communist regime in Eastern Europe.

"Uprooted" addresses key questions about memory, moral values, and accountability to history, revisiting the image of a "Lost Bulgaria" while reflecting on the causes of today's societal challenges.

The screening is free of charge.
