First Event of the Joint Initiative of the Regional History Museum - Burgas and the State Institute for Culture "The Language of Cuisine: Diplomacy, History, Culture"
The Embassy of Ukraine in cooperation with the Regional History Museum in Burgas, the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Burgas organized the first event of the new initiative in the field of culinary and cultural diplomacy - "The Language of the Kitchen: Diplomacy, History, Culture". The Day of Ukrainian Cuisine was dedicated to the presentation of the traditional tastes and cultural heritage of Ukraine to the Bulgarian public.
The event was held in the presence of a number of officials, including the ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria Mrs. Olesya Ilashchuk, the regional governor of Burgas Prof. Dr. Maria Neykova and the deputy mayors Mihail Nenov and Stanimir Apostolov. The director of RIM Burgas, Dr. Milen Nikolov, also welcomed the guests of the celebration.
The attendees had the opportunity to taste the variety of Ukrainian cuisine, presented by master chefs from the Ukrainian diaspora in Burgas. Among the dishes that aroused particular interest were the traditional borscht, included in 2022 on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage, as well as vareniki, pancakes and various porridges.
The celebration was complemented by the photographic exhibition "Ukrainian Costumes and Traditions", part of the charity project "Sincere" of the "Domosphere" center in Kyiv, which was presented at the Ethnographic Museum in Burgas. The day of Ukrainian cuisine was accompanied by a musical program and an exhibition of drawings depicting Ukrainian costumes provided by Yulia Krasovska Art School. The event not only gathered many guests, but also laid the foundation for future initiatives in the cultural dialogue between Bulgaria and Ukraine.
The next event of the initiative will take place on November 12, 2024. from 12:30 p.m. in the Ethnographic Museum in Burgas, where an intriguing exhibition titled "Sweet Ambassadors - Gastrodiplomacy" will be presented, provided by the Embassy of Hungary in the Republic of Bulgaria.
