Bulgarian selection at the AKTO_5 Festival in Bitola

20/08/10
From 11 to 15 August 2010, the fifth edition of the international festival for contemporary arts AKT0_5 took place in Bitola, Macedonia. This year’s participation was reduced to a narrow selection from countries of former Yugoslavia; Bulgaria’s selection also found its place there. Our traditional partnership with the festival was successful this year, too. The selection of the State Institute for Culture included part of the programme “Borderline Situation: The Drawing in Contemporary Art” from the “Travelling Exhibitions” Programme and a visit by two authors – Bogdan Alexandrov and Stanimir Genov – coming from different generations who presented video art works expressly created for the festival.

Alexander Angelov, Vikenti Komitski, Dimo Ivanov, Kamen Starchev, Stella Vasileva, Stefania Batoeva, and Yassen Markov also took part in the selection representing our country as part of the general exhibition, which was situated in the Officers House architectural monument that was built before the Liberation in an Ottoman neo-Baroque style.

The festival’s programme also included an ad hoc programme where Bogdan Alexandrov carried out an artistic experiment in generating ideas and topics for conceptual performance with the participation of citizens of the town of different background. During the conference, another social action organised by Stanimir Genov put emphasis on the disproportion between the personal and the public in modern society, which he illustrated by using sound equipment in the history museum of the town.
