Participation of Bulgarian films at the European Film Festival in Tunis
In the period 22-30 November 2023, the European Film Festival took place in Tunis with the participation of 28 films from 17 European countries. The Embassy of Bulgaria in Tunis was among the co-organizers of the festival, together with the diplomatic missions and cultural centers of the MS represented in Tunis (enclosed brochure and program of the festival).
The screenings were organized in three movie theaters in the capital Tunis, as well as in the cities of Kef, Djemel and Menzel Bourguiba, with the aim of European film art reaching the widest possible audience. This is the first such festival since 2014 and it was widely covered in the local media.
The festival provided an opportunity to present contemporary Bulgarian cinema, as our country participated with two films - "The naked truth about the Zhiguli group" and "The Endless Garden", which were screened in the capital Tunis, with the first being presented in Kef, and the second in Menzel Bourguiba. A discussion with the Tunisian audience was also organized during the screening of "The naked truth about the Zhiguli group" in Kef.
The festival passed with high interest from the local public. The only unpleasant episode was at the official opening of the festival, when a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators started chanting slogans against the war in Gaza and the EU, which led to the exit of the hall by the European ambassadors present.
