The Traveling Exhibition "Miraculous Icons and Holy Relics of the Balkans" at the Pontifical Gregorian University
The traveling exhibition "Miraculous Icons and Holy Relics of the Balkans" of the State Institute for Culture of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria is on display at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the most prestigious higher education institution of the Vatican, where nearly 3,000 students from 125 nationalities study in 14 faculties led by 334 teachers.
The opening of the exhibition was held on Monday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the university hall, while the 25 panels with reproductions of iconic churches and monasteries from Bulgaria and the Balkan countries, where miraculous icons and holy relics are kept, were located in the central lobby and various transition spaces where students pass through. The initiative for the presentation of the traveling exhibition belongs to the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Holy See.
At the opening, Bogdan Patashev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Holy See and Rector of Mark Lewis University, gave a welcome. An introduction to the theme of the exhibition was made by the director of the Faculty of History and Artistic Values of the Church, Prof. Ottavio Bucarelli, and one of the three authors of the traveling exhibition, Prof. Aksinia Dzurova, gave a detailed description of the approach and selection of the images and the meaning of such an exhibition in the modern world . At the end of the opening, the Bulgarian Orthodox priest in Rome Prof. Dr. Ivan Ivanov (right) sang a troparion of St. John of Ril, whose memory is celebrated these days in Rome and with other initiatives. The opening was attended by clergy from the Orthodox, Catholic and Anglican churches, ambassadors from over twenty countries, teachers, students and guests.
The exhibition will be on display at the Pontifical University until the end of October 2022.
