22/07/22

On July 16, 2022, a diverse presentation of Bulgarian culture took place in Budapest, which was part of the program of the "Festival of Nations" in the Hungarian capital.

The director of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Snezhana Joveva-Dimitrova, joined the official celebration by welcoming the guests of the festival - representatives of the Bulgarian community, diplomats, media, partners, and then participated in the opening of the phototype exhibition "Traditions", which is part of the Institute's traveling exhibitions programme.

The exhibition "Traditions" by the Bulgarian photographer Alexander Mihailov is exhibited outdoors in a park space and available for viewing until the end of August. It is a synthesized visual narrative of a rich palette of traditions, rituals and multicultural diversity in Bulgarian culture. A special visit with an intriguing story about Bulgarian traditions, customs and rites, about our rich folklore, with the guests from the diplomatic corps was made by H.E. Hristo Polendakov, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Hungary, accompanied by Mrs. Snezhana Joveva-Dimitrova and Dr. Yordan Bochkov, Honorary Consul of Bulgaria based in Kecskemet, Hungary. On the Hungarian side, the event was honored by the deputy mayor of the Terezváros region, Dr. Zuzana Kerek Beleznai. During her speech, she gave many examples of the Bulgarian merits and contribution to the development of Hungary and expressed her satisfaction for the excellent partnership.

In the initiative of the "Yotvyosh 10" cultural center, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Budapest organized a reception with Bulgarian pastries, meat specialties, mineral water and wine, which illustrated how powerful a tool for getting to know each other food can be and how culinary diplomacy brings people together. Partners of the project are the Bulgarian Embassy in Budapest, the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute and the Bulgarian Self-Government in Terezvaros. The event was held outdoors in one of the central areas of the Hungarian capital, and the coordinator from the Bulgarian side was Mrs. Svetla Kyoseva - chairwoman of the Bulgarian self-government in the Terezváros region and editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian-Hungarian magazine for culture and public life "Hemus".

The festival program continued with musical performances by the "Falkafolk" orchestra, which regularly organizes gatherings promoting Bulgarian dance and folk music. A special concert was performed by the Hungarian group "Mesechinka" led by Emil Bilyarski and soloist Ana Maria Ola. Mesecinka is one of the most popular contemporary Hungarian world and ethnic music groups. In their performances, you can hear both Balkan rhythms and melodies, as well as rock and jazz. It is curious that their latest disc is ranked seventh in the prestigious international ranking World Music Charts Europe.

The festival ended with a summer cinema and a screening of the Bulgarian feature film "Vacationers" by director Ivaylo Penchev with Hungarian subtitles, which attracted many viewers on Saturday. The film won the audience award at the Golden Rose festival, as well as at the Gabrovo humor festival.
