The National Scientific Program "Cultural and Historical Heritage, National Memory and Social Development", the Cyril and Methodius Research Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs will present on the occasion of the Assumption of St. Methodius on April 6 at 5.30 pm at the Mission Gallery, Sofia, 2 Alfred Nobel Str., the bilingual albumCyril and Methodius. Images. Memory. Identity.
This is a unique edition dedicated to secular images of St. Cyril and Methodius - examples of faleristics, numismatics, philately, vexillology. The orders and medals reproduced in the album, coins and banknotes, stamps, flags and monuments have a special place in the "culture of memory". They are a testament to the cultural policy of different countries in the process of forming a collective identity. Their message reflects the changing motives in the interpretation of the work of Cyril and Methodius in the long chronological period from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day, in a vast geographical area - from Europe to Southeast Africa and North America. The publication once again shows the Cyril and Methodius tradition as a main pillar of the national identity of Bulgarians and other European nations, which has become a symbol of dialogue and understanding in a united Europe.
