THE BULGARIAN FILM "ODYSSEY" WON THE AWARD OF THE STATE CULTURAL INSTITUTE IN THE SIXTH EDITION OF THE MASTER OF ART FESTIVAL

On September 10, at a ceremony in Vivacom Art Hall, the winners of the sixth edition of the Master of Art Film Festival were announced.

For the first year, the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs is an institutional partner of the festival and has provided the award for the best Bulgarian documentary film about art. The international jury of the festival chose for this award the film "Odyssey" (2020), directed by Desislava Shishmanova and Noncho Nonchev, produced by BNT. The award  was given by the director of the Institute - Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, who congratulated the winner and the festival team for the program which took place in six cities in the country. She therefore invited  the documentary film participate in the upcoming film project of SIC in the fall "BG screen online".

The Grand Prix "Master of Art" joins the Swedish film "The Most Beautiful Boy in the World", directed by Christina Lindström and Christian Petri. the masterpiece “Death of Venice.” The debut award goes to Andrei Kulev for “The Man with the Pipe”.

This year the Master of Art festival took place in three stages - online in February, spring edition in April in several Sofia cinemas, in the summer months the festival visited for the first time six Bulgarian cities - Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Koprivshtitsa, Stara Zagora and White.

As part of the program of the Master of Art Film Festival, the Master of Art Festival in Koprivshtitsa is held from August 25 to 29. As a partner of the festival, SCI participates with a special promotion of the film "15 years of SCI". An open-air photographic exhibition "Directions" was also exhibited, which remains in the city at the display of the mayor of the city Mrs. Boyka Dyulgyarova, on the occasion of the start of the new academic school year and is arranged in the school yard.

 

About the Bulgarian art documentary "ODYSSEY":

This is a documentary about the eternal return. The BNT team takes the actor Konstantin Elenkov - performer of the role of Odysseus in the performance of the Drama Theater - Plovdiv in the magical Ithaca. Together with the director of the show - Diana Dobreva. In an emotional and personal conversation with contemporary Ithaca, the theatrical Odyssey seeks answers to the questions: why has this myth continued to excite humanity for so many millennia, what makes The Odyssey the most famous story of all time. The team of BNT Plovdiv has been following the creators of "Odyssey" since the birth of the idea to create a theatrical performance for the traveling person. The theatrical process magically reproduces the vicissitudes of a real journey in which modern man seeks himself. "We were looking for the light that Odysseus followed. The journey to Penelope, to the love of his life, is the real journey to himself for Odysseus "- says the director of the show - Diana Dobreva.

The film is an effort to create a memory of an extremely creative and important stage in the history of the Plovdiv Theater. And for one of the most significant events in the calendar of "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019". Yannis Pantazis, a master of ancient musical instruments and researcher of Greek mythology, was involved in its creation; a workshop with the artists is led by Theo Abazis, deputy director of the Greek National Theater. A large-scale and interesting project that the authors of the film present in all its stages. Theatrical and artistic events gain additional meaning through the responses of modern Ithacians to the meaning of myth. An eternal story about a man who accepts the challenges of life and meets his human destiny.
