As part of the cultural program on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Spain and Bulgaria, the Spanish Embassy in Bulgaria pays tribute to the Spanish diplomat Julio Palencia, who as Minister of the Spanish Legation in Sofia between 1940 and 1943 acted in defense of the Bulgarian community of Sephardic origin.

To this end, the guidebook "In the Footsteps of a Spanish Diplomat in Sofia: Julio Palencia. Route and Overview of the Diplomatic Relations between Spain and Bulgaria” is published. The State Archives Agency participated in the creation of the publication, providing documents, data, as well as images from the time illustrated in the book in addition to those given by individuals. Support was also received from the Sephardic Center-Israel in Spain. The publication was made in cooperation with Kolibri Publishing House, in Spanish and Bulgarian.

The route provided in this publication offers a tour of the various places in the city of Sofia related to the history of relations between Spain and Bulgaria. With this, the Embassy of Spain in Bulgaria aims to offer the Spanish Visitors of Sofia, as well as the Bulgarian public, a tourist and cultural guide through the places of the city related to the Spanish presence in Bulgaria.
