New exhibition "The City of the Balkans: Spaces, Images, Memory in Postcards" opened in Thessaloniki

The exhibition "The City of the Balkans: spaces, images, memory in postcards" was prepared by a team of the Institute of Balkan Studies with a Center for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in implementation of the National Research Program "Cultural and Historical Heritage, National Memory and Social Development", funded by Ministry of Education and Science. It contains postcards from the late 19th century to the beginning of the digital age. The exhibition was opened on July 19, 2021 in the building of the Thessaloniki Historical Center in Thessaloniki. The project was implemented jointly by the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Thessaloniki Historical Center and the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Center for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

 

Welcoming remarks were made by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Harris Aydonopolis, the Deputy Director of the Thessaloniki Historical Center Mrs. Georgia Mihail, the Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Center for Thracology at BAS Prof. Rumyana Preshlenova and Mr. Krassimir Tulechki on behalf of GK Thessaloniki. The positive assessment of the importance of the good cooperation of the Consulate General, Thessaloniki Municipality, Thessaloniki Historical Center and the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Thracology Center at BAS was common, and that such initiatives contribute to even greater rapprochement of our two neighboring friendly peoples.

 

The event was attended by representatives of the media and friends of Bulgaria, in compliance with health protocols to limit Covid-19.
