NEXT Balkan or the Next Step – Bulgarian Contemporary Art in Belgrade

Bulgarian contemporary art with thirty of the best NEXT artists will be shown for two weeks in Belgrade. The event will be held in three exhibition spaces and additional program with collaborations, music events and performances, showing the best of the actual art in Bulgaria. The event is part of the platform NEXT Balkan and is organized by the Bulgarian DOMA Art Foundation, in partnership with the Cultural Institute to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Embassy in Belgrade, Kulturforum ODKR and Vracar Municipality.


Balkans are a region with a rich cultural and artistic heritage, as well as great creative potential, where the countries share identical experiences, sociocultural, and economic challenges.

NEXT Balkan is a platform for exchanging and cooperating artists and art specialists coming from the Balkan countries. After several successful events both in Sofia and Belgrade, as well as the upcoming venues in Novi Sad and Split, the platform presents Bulgarian Contemporary Art in Belgrade, trying to emphasize on the current Art scene beyond the clichés. It consists of a series of events such as exhibitions, conferences, performances, exchanges, and collaborations with the Bulgarian / Balkan and world stages.
Along with the ever deepening impact of Art on the culture and society, as well as its huge potential for communicating the cultural and personal exchange, Bulgarian Contemporary Art creates a prerequisite for dialogue having a future direction.

Exhibition will be held in three parts happening between the Art spaces U10, Vracar Gallery and Ostvinska Galerija, each with and under-topic, as it is intended to be accompanied by an orderly program including conferences, music events and performances, described below.
The vernissage will take place from 6:00 pm April 29, at U10 Art space and will continue in the other spaces Vracar and Ostavinska galleries. As part of the event on April 30 in KC Grad there will be a talk between the Bulgarian and Serbian guests, followed by a concert from the Bulgaria’s pop-star Mila Robert and DJ Technobeton  As an accent in the program there will be a live 8 hours performance “The Embrace” as a collaboration between Bulgarian artist Voin de Voin and Serbian Marta Jovanovic from 12-8:00 pm at TEN Studio, Avala House. This is one of the first events, giving a full focus on the next  scene in Bulgarian art in interaction on the Balkans in the last decades.
