01/12/20

With eight films and co-productions, Bulgaria will participate in the 17th edition of the Animateka International Animation Film Festival in Slovenia. Due to the epidemic, this year the event will be held from November 30 to December 9 only in a virtual format, offering the audience 252 of the initially planned 338 titles.

The young Bulgarian authors and production companies will present themselves in three sections - "Main Competition Program", "Eastern and Central European Panorama" and "Animateca ProPeach", aimed specifically at still developing projects in the region.

The first category includes the Bulgarian-Austrian "Hierarchical Defect" (part of the film anthology "Happiness Machine"), "The Apocalypse Waits Under the Blanket" (joint project between Bulgaria and Canada) and "Tasks for the day". "Hierarchical defect" embodies the ideas of the so-called the welfare economy and corporate social responsibility. The short works of Vessela Dancheva, Teodor Ushev and Petya Zlateva will also compete for one of the three awards of the festival - the Grand Prize of "Animateka", the Audience Award and that of the Slovenian Association of Animated Film.

In "Eastern and Central European Panorama" are selected films entitled "Shallow Vein", "The Last Day", "The Monster" and "Above Things". They fall into this section, thanks to the "good technical knowledge and creative potential" shown.

The third section will also show the guest Bulgarian-Serbian co-production "Switching", co-financed by the Bulgarian Film Center with 40,000 euros. The project of Vessela Dancheva and Dalibor Reininger is supported with 2,000 euros by the creative platform "Compote Collective".

She has produced most of the animations in the festival program this year, directed by Petya Zlateva, Joanna Alexandrova, Ina Nikolova, Dalibor Reininger and others. They are part of the collection of animated poems "Stroke and Verse". Specifically, the films are inspired by the works of poets Marin Bodakov, Stefan Ivanov, Maria Doneva and Stefan Ikoga. Some of these titles are part of the program of the festival "BG screen online", organized by the State Cultural Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the period from November 20 to December 6 this year.

During "Animateka 2020" online conversations will be held with the authors of the broadcast films, incl. from Bulgaria, with whom the lovers of the Seventh Art will be able to meet in the virtual space.

And this year The festival is organized by the Association "2 Tapes" in cooperation with the Slovenian Cinematheque and the Slovenian Film Center and with the support of the Central European Animation Forum, the Municipality of Ljubljana and others.
