Exhibition of Dimitar Genchev in the Netherlands

25/09/20

From September 28 to November 29 in the Museum De Domijnen Hedendaagse Kunst in Sittard, the Netherlands is presented an exhibition of the young Bulgarian artist Dimitar Genchev.

Dimitar Genchev was born in Plovdiv in 1985. He has been painting since he was 12 years old. He is a graduate of the National Academy of Arts, and subsequently continued his academic studies in the Netherlands. The exhibition presents 40 of his works, most of which are owned by Dutch galleries.

In the exhibition, entitled Beauty & Decay, the artist shows the beauty he sees in cluttered interior spaces, ruined factories, it includes unexpected images of people and animals. Hyper-realistic elements emerge from abstract surfaces, carefully painting light, touching human skin or glossy ceramics, rusty iron or peeling walls. In Genchev's paintings, the beauty of the disintegration of the material is contrasted.

"If you watch things long enough, you start to love them," says the author.

The exhibition also features works by Belgian sculptor Peter Bougenhout, who lives and works in Ghent.

The implementation of the project and the publishing of the representative catalogue is supported by the State Institute for Culture under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in The Hague and the National Culture Fund.
The program of the State Institute for Culture for 2021 plans an exhibition of the artist together with the Belgian sculptor.
