The exhibition "Law and Justice" presented in Tbilisi

04/07/16

On June 28 2016 in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, the State Institute for Culture presented the exhibition "Law and Justice", which is part of the "Travelling Exhibitions" programme.

The exhibition consists of posters by four of the most prominent Bulgarian poster artists - Prof. Dr. Ivan Gazdov, Professor Georgi Yankov and Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Mladenov and Milena Abanos.

Where do law and justice meet and diverge (perhaps)? This is the topic that lecturers from the National Art Academy address in this project. The artists visualise their personal reflections on one of the very complex social and political topics, law and justice. The works are impressive for their unexpected perspectives and choices of means of expression that each of the artists has chosen to visualise their ideas.

The exhibition was opened by Ms. Nino Kalandadze, Head of the Saakashvili Library, and Mrs. Lyudmila Dimitrova, Director of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her address to the guests at the opening, Mrs. Dimitrova emphasised that this exhibition of social posters is an invitation, in a very artistic way, to be included in the conversation on defining problems in public life. Today, when culture and cultural diplomacy are recognized as one of the main diplomatic tools and methods of influence, it is in this that we can decipher the special mission of art - to be a corrective, to point out problems, and not just to be "fun".

The hosting by the Saakashvili Library, an institution whose mission is to promote liberal democratic values and ideas for an informed and responsible civil society, is a landmark for the State Institute for Culture and its long-term goal to strengthen cultural diplomacy as a powerful tool for overcoming common challenges and to bring together societies and nations professing democratic values and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, Mrs. Dimitrova said.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Bulgaria in Tbilisi and will be on until the end of July. The event was attended by diplomats, representatives of cultural institutions in the Georgian capital, journalists, Bulgarians and friends of Bulgaria. Mrs. Dimitrova gave a short interview to TV channel Rustavi2.
