Cultural program of the Bulgarian presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe - Strasbourg

During the Bulgarian Presidency from November 2015 until the end of May 2016, a rich cultural programme including a series of events promoting national culture and heritage was prepared and carried out.

The main organizer of the event is the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and the Association of Bulgarian culture in Strasbourg, "St. Cyril and Methodius".

The State Institute for Culture is contributing to the implementation of a significant part of the initiative. In March, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova opened in Strasbourg the exhibition "Bulgarian cities - antiquity that lives". The exhibition shows the iconic places and monuments in several Bulgarian cities, accompanied by appropriate cultural background and context.

In April, Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov will be patron of the exhibition "The roofs of Sofia", by Bulgarian photographer Nona Boshnakova. The audience will have the opportunity to encounter some of the most important architectural elements - the roofs of emblematic buildings of Sofia.

A poster exhibition "Law and Justice" by teachers from the posters and visual communication department of the National Art Academy presents social poster as one of the artistic instruments that involve art in the socio-political and public debate.

In May, in the administrative centre of the Park Etoile, there will be an exhibition entitled "Gutenberg and the Slavic world", dedicated to the founding of the largest Slavic printing house, of Jacob Krajkov - the first Bulgarian printer in in Venice, who used Strasbourg-born Johannes Gutenberg's invention that was a landmark for its time.

For the first time in Strasbourg, Days of Bulgarian Cinema will be held. From April 27 to May 11, a panorama of Bulgarian cinema will be presented at the Odyssey Theatre in the city. The films have been selected and provided by the State Institute for Culture.
