Bulgarian Exhibitions on the Night of the Arts in Helsinki, 22 August 2008

Two exhibitions organized by the Bulgarian Embassy will present Bulgarian art on the Night of the Arts (Taiteiden Yö) in Helsinki on 22 August.

The Art of Bulgarian Book Illustration will take place at the Europe House (Pohjoisesplanadi 31) on Friday, 22 August from 5 p.m., and on 25 & 26 August from 10 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. The exhibition features some of the most outstanding achievements in the illustration and graphic art of Bulgarian books since the beginning of the 1990s. The collection includes children literature illustration, illustrated issues of encyclopedias, historical books, book covers, typography scripts design, calligraphy. The authors include well-known illustrators and graphic artists, such as Viktor Paunov, Tonia Goranova, Tzviatko Ostoich, Venelin Valkanov, Sevda Poturian, Yassen Gyuzelev, Siana Zaharieva, Yana Levieva.

The Bulgarian Theatre Posters exhibition will take place at the Art Poster Gallery – Cable Factory (Kaapelitehdas, Tallberginkatu 1 C, 5th floor) from 22 August till 31 October 2008. The exhibition will be opened on Friday, 22 August, at 7 p.m. It presents 80 Bulgarian posters from the collection of the International Triennial of Stage Posters established in Sofia 14 years ago as a presentation of the contemporary art poster all over the world devoted to the various stage arts: drama, opera, ballet, operetta, musical, circus, puppet show, pantomime, concerts, festivals, variety theatre (music hall), pop music performances, etc.

The two exhibitions are presented with the support of the State Institute of Culture at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of its 'Travelling Exhibitions' programme.
