29/06/23

Between July 6 and 28, 2023, at the Mission Gallery, you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of Argentinian artist Leticia Burgos and her exhibition "Spirit and Matter". The event is part of the SOFIA PAPER ART FEST 2023 program and is organized by the Amateras Foundation and the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The long-awaited exhibition by the Argentinian author Leticia Burgos is the seventh consecutive exhibition from the SOFIA PAPER ART FEST program. The long-standing partnership of the Amateras Foundation with the State Institute for Culture marked the beginning of this year's edition of SOFIA PAPER ART FEST with an exhibition at the European Court in Luxembourg and now moves to Sofia with this exotic and impressive collection. The exhibition will present a rare selection of works with author's paper and a complex combination of different techniques and textures.

The festival started a few years ago as an exchange project between Bulgaria and Argentina, with Leticia Burgos as the curator and participant from the Argentinian side. She is a renowned author in the field of paper art and a member of the World Association of Paper Artists. She has made a huge contribution to the development of this genre in her country and as a university lecturer at the University of Mendoza she has attracted a number of young authors to this new trend in contemporary art. Her US specialization early in her creative career focused on o-kyo. This famous Japanese technique – engraving on wood, refracted through the different worldview of Leticia Burgos, leaves a deep mark on Argentinian graphics and paper art. Winner of a number of awards, she also contributes as a curator to the international creative exchange.

The exhibition "Spirit and Matter" presents the searches of the author, through the great variety in the dialogue between color and form. Each of the works has a deep spiritual message complemented by rich expressive materiality. The transition from strong structures to subtle, abstract and figurative images creates a sense of the immense power of the message woven by the author. Her characteristic powerful engravings, intertwined with reliefs and structures, create the feeling of movement and spirituality of the material.

The exhibition is under the patronage of the Embassy of Argentina and will be opened by His Excellency Alfredo Atanasoff, Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Bulgaria on June 6 at 6 p.m. at the "Mission" gallery. At the opening, the author will make a presentation about her creative projects and international experience.
