Two Bulgarian films at The 10th edition of the Nitrate Film Festival in Belgrade

Belgrade hosted the tenth edition of the Nitrate Film Festival from 6 till 12 June 2008. This year’s motto was “Miracles from the inflammable hat”. 50 productions from Bulgaria, former Soviet Union republics, Italy, France, Greece, the former Yugoslavian Republic, Germany , Hungary and other were presented. All of them are black-and-white movies which have been produced on easily-inflammable film made of silver nitrate that was used during the first half of the 20th century.

The event was organized by the Museum of the Yugoslavian cinematheque in partnership with the Bulgarian national cinematheque, the Greek film archive and the film archives of Russia, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Spain and other countries.

The Bulgarian movie-making tradition was represented by two movies - ”Challenge”(1942), directed by Hrisan Tsankov and “Strahil Voivoda” (1938), directed by Yosip Novak and starring Ivan Dimov and Ruzha Delcheva (on the picture). Special guest of the opening of the festival was the director of the Bulgarian national cinematheque Plamen Maslarov.

All participants in the festival were greeted on behalf of the Bulgarian Embassy in Belgrade.
