“Culture and International Cooperation for Development” - discussion

Membership of Bulgaria in EU has changed decisively the nature of its significance as a recepient country to  a country donating financial support to third countries. The participation of Bulgaria as a donor in the programmes of the EU and its policies in the filed of foreign affairs, security and development  raised the question of the role of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in the establishment of a common strategy. The discussion on the importance of cultural diplomacy in this strategy is considered in the context of its capacity to fulfil the aims from the European programmes in the relations with third countries.

At the request of the Institute for Culture at the Minister of foreign affairs an expert group made an inquiry and prepared a report on “Approaches and Guidelines  for State Institute for Culture in regional cultural cooperation in the Balkan and Black-Sea region”.

Results from the inquiry shall be presented on 22nd May in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on a discussion about “Culture and international cooperation for development”.

Among the guests of the discussion there are ambassadors of leading countries – donors in the international policy for cooperation, non-government organizations donors for culture, representatives of the public authorities, experts and researchers.
