The Sboryanovo Exhibition – Nature, Monuments, Gods and People – in Tokyo

On 14 January 2011, in the Ancient Orient Museum in Tokyo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mr. Lyubomir Todorov opened the exhibition Sboryanovo – Nature, Monuments, Gods and People.

The exposition is part of the Travelling Exhibitions Programme of the State Institute for Culture and comprises 21 photo-panels, depicting the architectural protected area of Sboryanovo.

The opening was attended by the Director of the Ancient Orient Museum – Mr. Ichiro Nakata, the Director of the World Culture Research Institute– Mrs. Yasuko Hamada, the Director of Central and Eastern Europe Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan – Mr. Kunihiko Kawadzu, famous Japanese researchers of the Thracian culture, representatives of the academic circles and friends of our country.

In his welcoming speech the Ambassador – Mr. Todorov, emphasised on the symbolic meaning of Sboryanovo as a place inhabited by various beliefs and cultures – an example of the contemporary tolerance among the different ethnoses and religions in Bulgaria.

Besides the photo-panels, in the hall were displayed as well a replica of the Golden Pegasus, contributed by the Equine Museum of Yokohama, and a model of the Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari, accomplished by Tokyo University archaeologists.

The exhibition Sboryanovo – Nature, Monuments, Gods and People will be open until 13 February 2011 as a special exhibition within the permanent museum exposition.

In Japanese, the exhibition is entitled Whirlpool of Time – Sboryanovo – a Gathering Place of Religions and Cultures.
