On May 24, 2024, at the "Bancaja" cultural center in the city of Valencia, the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia celebrated the Day of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and Slavic Literature with a thematic lecture and exhibition. The event was attended by the Consul and Vice-Consul of Italy and the Consul of Morocco, representatives of academic circles, chairmen of Bulgarian associations abroad and leaders and teachers of Bulgarian Sunday schools in the consular district of the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia, and citizens.

Those present at the event had the opportunity to view the mobile exhibition "Alphabet and History", which presents the role of the Bulgarian alphabet in the cultural history of the Slavic peoples and of writing as the basis of the historical memory of mankind. The 24 panels on display presented the stages of the development of the two alphabets - Glagolitic and Cyrillic and their changes as writing systems with the idea of revealing the political and cultural-historical facts that caused them. The exhibition presents the key role of the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdoms in shaping the Cyrillic alphabet as a pan-Slavic writing system during the Middle Ages. As the third alphabet in the European Union, the Cyrillic alphabet also faces a number of challenges of the modern age related to the technological development of society.

The exhibition uses material from the Archive of the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies "Ivan Duichev" and from a number of Bulgarian and foreign book repositories. Many of the samples are being shown in the exhibition for the first time. The exhibition is a joint project of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies "Ivan Duychev" at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the "Elena and Ivan Duychevi" Foundation.
