On the Occasion of May 24, the Mobile Exhibition "Stories from Glagolitic Times" is Visiting Bratislava

13/05/24

One of the newest mobile expositions of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs "Stories from Glagolitic Times" will visit Bratislava on the occasion of the holiday of Bulgarian education and culture and of Slavic writing - May 24.

The exhibition will be included in the international interdisciplinary conference "Linguistic and Cultural Contexts of the Christian Tradition: Slavic-European Connections and Parallels", organized by the Comenius University, the Slovak Committee of Slavists and the Biblical Commission of Slavists of Slovakia.

The opening of the exhibition, as a side event to the conference, will take place in the hall of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava from 18:00 on May 22 in the framework of the celebration of St. Cyril and Methodius and will be under the patronage of HE the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Slovak Republic - Mr. Vasil Petkov. The musical accompaniment to the event will be from the "Elitsi" Orthodox chant choir of the National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures (NGDEK).

The exhibition "Stories from Glagolitic times", which is part of the State Institute for Culture program "Mobile expositions", was created by a team of scholars at the Institute of Bulgarian Language "Prof. L. Andreychin" - BAS. The exhibition was produced under the National Scientific Program "Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad", financed by the Ministry of Education and Science and provided for the purposes of cultural and public diplomacy by the Institute of the Bulgarian Language "Prof. L. Andreychin" at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. It presents for the first time high-resolution images of medieval manuscripts that tell stories from the life of the Glagolitic. They are a memory of the deeds of hardworking writers and of the fate of precious texts. These stories have been sourced from the meager evidence that has come down to us by the will of chance.

The Cyril and Methodius theme is a connecting link in the work of BCI Bratislava with many cultural institutions in Slovakia.
