Opening of the documentary exhibition “I Remember. Katin 1940”

25/06/10

The director of the State Cultural Institute, hosting the exhibition, Mrs. Dimitrova thanked the guests for attending the event and underlined that the strength of this exhibition is in its documentary nature. It reveals in an unique way the depth and tragedy of the events, to which every one of us should give a new meaning through his/her personal memory, it makes us read history not as a chronicle or news in brief and curious facts, to live with history and not to forget our past. The strength of history should be used to achieve the goals of our present and future, said the Deputy Minister Mr. Konstantin Dimitrov on the occasion of the exhibition opening. It should be studied and communicated to the public which is the sense of any event like this, shared also Mr. Dimitrov. He greeted and expressed his gratitude on behalf of Minister Mladenov to the government and embassy of the Republic of Poland to Bulgaria that they provided the opportunity to expose the exhibition to the Bulgarian audience. The Deputy Minister Mr. Dimitrov highly appreciated the content and aesthetics of the exhibition and expressed his hope that it will be seen by many people.
Moving and dramatic scenes from the tragic story about Katin in 1940 were shared by Mrs. Anna Janiscewska  – charge d’affaires of the Embassy of Republic of Poland in Sofia.
The event has been highly appreciated by Mr. Slavomir Viha – the Polish Defense Attache, who defined the event as an exceptional gesture on behalf of Bulgaria, as this is the way that memories about this tragic event will be preserved and will remain alive in the mind of future generations. The perished people and “the buttons of their military uniforms” left are only an indirect sign which will remind us of this historical wound. Spreading over the truth is a duty of any honorable person toward the victims and their families as well as in the name of justice and building of mutual trust.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Spain in Sofia Mr. Jorge Fuentes, monsignor Janusz Bolonek – Apostolic Nuncio in Sofia, Polish veterans from the Second World War, diplomats, and guests.
The exhibition is open for visitors every working day until 9 July 2010, in the “Mission” Gallery at the State Cultural Institute from 10:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m., at the following address: 2, Alfred Nobel Street.
