16/06/23

In the period 19 May - 4 June 2023, another edition of the European Film Festival was held in Vietnam with screenings in three major cities in the country - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hue. 18 EU member states and Ukraine were represented with films of various genres and themes.

Bulgaria participated with four screenings of the film "The Father" by directors Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov: in Ho Chi Minh City on May 29, in Hue on June 3, and the Bulgarian film closed the festival in Hanoi with a screening on June 4.

The European Film Festival has established itself over the years as one of the most significant events in Vietnam's film program and continues to enjoy high interest, especially from young people.

The screening of the Bulgarian film "The Father" in Hanoi took place to a full house and was opened with a short welcome to the audience by Ambassador Marinela Petkova, who highlighted the importance of the festival for reaching the Vietnamese audience with European culture, as well as the ambition of the organizers for the event to provoke a lasting interest in Bulgaria and Europe and opportunities for mutual acquaintance and communication between people.

The film "The Father" was extremely well received by the audience as it dealt with traditional and close to Vietnamese society life themes of family connection and duty.

The Bulgarian participation in the festival helped to confirm the image of Bulgaria as an integral, creative and modern part of the European cultural space."
