Celebrating May 24th in Toronto with the Exhibition “Alphabet and History”

On the occasion of May 24, the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto presented the exhibition "Alphabet and History", part of the mobile expositions of the State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition is dedicated to the spiritual feat of the Thessaloniki educators and Slavic apostles Constantine Cyril the Philosopher and Methodius, reveals the importance of writing for the preservation of national identity, presents the role of the alphabet in the cultural history of the Slavic peoples and of writing as the basis of the historical memory of humanity. Authors of the exhibition are Prof. Aksinia Djurova and Prof. Vasya Velinova. Consultant – Prof. Kazimir Popkonstantinov.

The exhibition was shown as part of the "Festival of Letters", organized for the Bulgarian community and the Canadian audience with the active participation of the Bulgarian Weekend School "Rodolyubche", which took place on May 27 in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church "St. George" in the capital of the province of Ontario - Toronto, on the occasion of May 24 - Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of Slavic literature and the end of the school year.

The guests had the opportunity to enjoy the rich literary and musical program prepared by the Bulgarian School "Rodolyubche", during which Bulgarian poems were recited and Bulgarian patriotic songs were sung.

The guests from the theater formation "Ilinden", Perugia, Italy, presented a puppet show, which were wildly applauded by the students and parents present in the hall.

On behalf of the Consulate General, Consul General Velislava Panova and Consul Ivan Kitov took part in the celebration. In her address, Mrs. Panova congratulated the children on the end of the school year and congratulated all those present on the May 24th holiday, expressing her gratitude to the teachers for their dedicated work to maintain the spirit of Bulgarian among the children, wishing them an exciting and unforgettable summer.
