PRESENTATION OF A NEW BOOK BY PROF. KIRILL TOPALOV FROM THE "WRITING DIPLOMATS" PROGRAM

03/05/23

On May 9, at the Sofia City Art Gallery, from 6:30 p.m., the new book "Life by Inevitability" will be presented with author Prof. Kiril Topalov - university professor, public figure and ambassador of Bulgaria to Greece (1998 - 2002) and the Vatican and the Order of Malta ( 2013 - 2019).

He "arranges" his text entirely in the not very usual genre of the memoir novel, in which everywhere and at the same time - ironically and more often self-ironically - the narrator, the main character, and the victimized character will be everywhere and at the same time, therefore he will appear in all three guises always in the third person. "Why self-deprecating? Because the author remembers the enlightened maxim of a great European, according to which constant seriousness is the surest sign of mediocrity. Some of you will pity him, others will curse him, isn't it true that two centuries ago our grandfather Sophronius said in his sad-cheerful "Life and Suffering": "Because it is a natural thing - a learned man loves a learned man, and a simple prostago, and a drunken pianago'. Remember it too, and if you ever happen to say or do something stupid like the author, console yourself with Oscar Wilde's famous wise thought that smart people talk and do stupid things, and for the rest of us it's everyday. And finally - why life by inevitability? Because if it was avoidable, we would have chosen a better one. And why are we talking about him? Because many of the young citizens are told by their parents that it was not inevitable, so that they would not be burdened. So they are promised to experience said life again and again personally and tragically. According to one of the perspectives – in the nearer or slightly more distant future. According to the other, if one were to look at what is currently being done around - even today and tomorrow," - points out the author Kiril Topalov.

The event is realized jointly between the State Cultural Institute of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sofia City Art Gallery and "Bard" publishing house.
