Days of Bulgarian Culture in Dakar, Senegal

In the first days of December in the capital of Senegal Dakar, the first days of Bulgarian culture will be held. The events will start with the opening of a representative phototype exhibition of the State Institute for Culture of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, dedicated to "Bulgarian Monuments under the Protection of UNESCO ". The Bulgarian delegation, in which the director of the State Institute for Culture Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, Prof. Madeleine Danova, Dean of the Faculty of Classical and New Philology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”and African Students from the Department will have work meetings with university professors.

The trilingual exhibition (French, English and Bulgarian) is visiting the University of Sheik Anta Diop (UCAD), and will be opened at the University Library on December 8. The event is organized by the Faculty of Literature and Humanities and is within the framework of an initiative for educational and cultural cooperation between Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”and Sheik Anta Diop University. The emphasis in the exhibition is the promotion of the uniqueness and beauty of the Bulgarian monuments included in the list of the world’s cultural and natural heritage. The exposition is dedicated to 65 years since the Bulgarian membership in UNESCO and 75 years since the founding of the organization. Presenting in 21 panels: 13 information boards and 8 photographic panels with the objects of Bulgaria in the UNESCO list for cultural and natural sites, monuments of world heritage, the photographs are of the great Bulgarian photographer Ivo Hadzhimishev.

For the guests of the exhibition, students, teachers and the academic community will be screened a short representative film about the cultural and historical wealth of Bulgaria, in French, provided by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as a meeting with Prof. Madeleine Danova, Dean of FCNF at Sofia University and students from the Department of African Studies who visit the University of Dakar under the Erasmus program.

Within the program of the days of Bulgaria in Senegal, in parallel in Sofia, a thematic issue of the Literary Journal, dedicated to Senegalese literature and culture, was published under the editorial of Prof. Reni Yotova, Literary newspaper no. 38, 2-8 November 2022.
