Official Opening Of The Jubilee Tenth Edition Of The International Triennial Of Stage Poster-Sofia

29/10/22

On November 1, the official opening of the tenth anniversary edition of the International Triennial of Stage Poster-Sofia will take place in the National Palace of Culture.

Founded in 1994 by Bojidar Ikonomov (1943-2016), Bojidar Ionov and Albena Spasova, today the Triennale is among the authoritative international poster platforms and the only exhibition focused on posters created especially for the cultural scene.

The tenth edition differs from all the previous ones, not only because the anniversary predisposes to retrospectives and predictions, but also because the last three years have tested the civic and creative sensitivity of the poster artist, and the motto of the tenth Triennial The Power of the Poster clearly responded to these attitudes. The pandemic and the war in Ukraine leave an imprint on the presented works, broaden the scope of the forum and confirm the view that the world is a stage and the poster is its mirror.

The campaign was launched last summer, and the scale of interest in the event from the global collegiate community is impressive. Nearly 4,200 posters were sent from all over the world. A selection jury has selected 300 of them, which will be exhibited and will enter the collection of the Triennale. On November 1, the prize winners, determined by an international jury, will be announced.

Host of the 10th Triennale is the National Palace of Culture. The accompanying exhibitions are at the National Gallery - Kvadrat 500, at Raiko Alexiev Hall of the Union of Bulgarian Artist, and in the newly opened gallery 88. The emphasis is on the artistic interventions in the urban environment because they return the poster to its natural place - the street, which is also the most influential gallery for this art. Some of the outside venues are: Slaveykov Square, the fences of the Center for Eastern Languages and Cultures at Sofia University, the National Academy of Art, the National Music School and 95 Secondary School; the facade of the National Academy of Music, etc.
