10/10/22

At the foyer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria on the occasion of initiatives marking the month of Bulgarian Enlighters will be presented the exhibition "800 years since the foundation of the rock monastery "St. Archangel Michael" near the village of Ivanovo", which will remain there until the end of November.

The poster exhibition was realized by a team of the Regional Historical Museum - Ruse, on the occasion of the holding of the international scientific conference “Ivanovo - Cherven - Tarnovo - the heritage of the Middle Ages" and is a guest at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the assistance of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In it, the monastery is presented against the background of the numerous cave monasteries in the canyons of the Lomovets. It is noted that it was founded with the help of Tsar Ivan Asen II, by St. Joachim, later the first head of the legitimate Bulgarian Patriarchate that was revived in Tarnovo. The churches, chapels, scriptorium, refectories, cells, stairs, passages and other constituent parts of the main complexes of the complex monastery - the Lavra - have been examined in detail. Emphasis is placed on the fresco richness, Komnenian and Palaeologian styles, including the three founding royal compositions.

The exhibition also touches on the issue of the preservation of the monument - today the rock churches of Ivanovo have the status of a National Archaeological Reserve, and since 1979 they have been included in the list of UNESCO's world cultural heritage.
