As part of the traditional Heritage Days in Brussels, which took place on September 17 and 18 this year, the Embassy of Bulgaria was one of the twenty diplomatic representations in the Belgian capital that opened their doors to the general public for the first time. Hundreds of visitors had the opportunity to view the paintings from the Art Fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs exhibited in the salons of the embassy, which include works by prominent Bulgarian artists, such as Dechko Uzunov, Encho Pironkov, Ivan Hristov, Nikola Manev, Todor Hadjinikolov.

The exhibition "Bulgarian monuments under the protection of UNESCO", prepared by the team of the State Cultural Institute, which presents - through the lens of one of our best photographers Ivo Hadjimishev - the uniqueness and beauty of the Bulgarian monuments included in the list of objects, also attracted great interest from the world cultural and natural heritage. Contemporary Bulgarian art was presented with sculptures from the last Streich collection of our internationally renowned sculptor Todor Todorov, which from March this year until now were presented for the first time outside of Bulgaria within the framework of two successful exhibitions in the Belgian capital.

With the assistance of dancers and singers from the Bulgarian dance groups "On the Choir in Brussels", "Zdravets" from Ghent, "Firefly" from Antwerp and "Balkanika" from Waregem, the visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the steps of the traditional Bulgarian dance and the magic of our native folklore, and many of them were happy to join in a dance that took place in the salons and the garden of the embassy.

The open days also included a rich literary program organized by the Bulgarian Cultural Association in Belgium. A number of Bulgarian poets and writers who live and work in Belgium, including Beta Naur, Daniela Velikova, Desislava Tsvetkova, Dimitar Stoilov, Irina Papancheva, Miglena Dikova-Milanova, Teodora Lalova-Spinks, presented their works and shared thoughts on the multinational cultural context of the capital of united Europe.

The strong interest and high attendance, as well as the warm reception from the hosts, confirmed the expectations of the organizers and their intention to turn the initiative of open doors of embassies into an annual tradition.
