18/05/22

From May 16 to May 30 in cooperation with the municipal authorities of the second largest city in South Korea – Busan, the Embassy of Bulgaria presents the exhibition "The Letters of Bulgaria - alphabet of Europe".
The event is carried out on the occasion of May 24 – the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Cyrillic Alphabet by the Embassy of Bulgaria and with the assistance of the Korea Foundation, the International Treinnial of Stage Poster-Sofia with the support of Sofia Municipality’s Culture program, and the Honorary Consuls of Bulgaria - Kim Hee-yong and Choi Kang-Yong. Venue of the event is the Busan Metropolitan Library.
On display are 30 posters created by 30 renowned artists from 20 countries, each reflecting one of the 30 letters of the Bulgarian Alphabet, one of Europe’s three major alphabets.
One of the letters „Ь“ was recreated after a contest among young Bulgarian artists and students, in which more than 30 projects of authors up to 35 years of age took part.
The exhibition is aimed at providing the visitors with information about the introduction in the ninth century of the ancient Cyrillic script. As viewers appreciate the art of the posters, they’ll learn how Bulgaria helped spread Orhtodox Christianity and literature throughout Europe and how the Bulgarian alphabet took its rightful place alongside Greek and Latin as one of the continent’s three main scripts.
The State Institute for Culture has a long-term partnership with the International Triennial of Stage Poster-Sofia in the implementation of a number of international projects.
