May 9th : Europe Day – Solidarity With Ukraine
The French Embassy and the French Institute of Bulgaria together with the Bulgarian cluster of EUNIC – European Union National Institutes for Culture - and in particular with the Austrian Embassy in Bulgaria, the Spanish Embassy in Bulgaria and the Cervantes Institute of Sofia express their solidarity with Ukraine with a special programme which will take place on May 9th from 5.30 pm on Slaveykov Square.
The event is included in the programme in Bulgaria of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and benefits the support of Sofia Municipality.
The artist Christian Bakalov will transform the facade of the French Institute of Bulgaria with the installation "PURE/Ukraine". Using the colours of the flags of Ukraine and France, this work symbolises the hope for peace, life and empathy to the Ukrainian people. "The spectators will be immersed in new experiences that will provoke their fantasy and explore their sense of reality and imagination”, says Christian Bakalov.
The programme includes a recital by the Ukrainian artist Iuliia Rubanova, first violin of Vienna Volksoper, and will continue with a performance of the Latino Kopeles group, whose members will make the square sing with well-known songs from Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Bulgaria and Ukraine in the support of which the event is held.
Event’s visitors will have the opportunity to view the charity interactive exhibition “Little Witnesses of the War” of Kids Creativity Museum Kyiv and 121 Agency and make donations in support of Ukrainian children, victims of war.
Quoting the words of the great French humanist Albert Jacquard, "From now on, the most necessary solidarity is that of all the inhabitants of the Earth", the organizers invite you at the event on May 9th at 5.30 p.m., on Slaveykov Square.
