The photographic exhibition "Canada - Known and Unknown", dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Canada was officially opened on August 18, 2021 at the Gallery-Restaurant "Philippopolis" in Plovdiv. Part of the event was a jazz concert performed by young performers Miroslava Katsarova (vocals) and Miroslav Turiyski (piano).

From 15 to 22 August 2021, the Bulgarian public will have the opportunity to view photographs from Canada, taken by amateur photographers of Bulgarian origin.

The organizer of the exhibition was the Toronto-based Foundation for Canadian-Bulgarian Culture and Heritage, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Canada. Four of the six photographers whose photos are included in the exhibition personally attended the official opening of the exhibition - Albena Robeva (Toronto), Igor Valentinovich (Toronto), Irma Aslanyan (Vancouver), Kalina Kamenova (Toronto), Lyuba Encheva (Toronto) and Maria Vlaeva (Montreal). A special guest was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Canada, Mrs. Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski, whose landscape photographs are also part of the exhibition.

In his address to the audience, the ambassador noted the importance of the human factor in bilateral relations. According to her, “The natural bridge for the development of Bulgarian-Canadian relations are the Bulgarians in Canada. Thanks to them, Bulgaria is more recognizable in the more important Canadian cities. The main participants in the event in Plovdiv, who have chosen Canada as their temporary or permanent home, contribute to building a stable and lively bridge to the Bulgarian audience by promoting Canada in Bulgaria.

Among those who visited the opening were Bulgarians from different parts of Bulgaria and from several cities in Canada. The guest of the event was also the director of BTA Mr. Kiril Valchev.
