Bulgaria participates at the Archeovision – back to the future Festival in Tirana

Underwater cultural heritage of the Black sea presented at the European Archeological Festival in Tirana, Albania
From June 16 to June 30, the first edition of the European Archeological Festival is being held in Albania, featuring thirteen films from eight countries: Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, and Spain. Bulgaria participates with the film Lost worlds. Deep into the Black sea, presenting the largest project for underwater archaeological research in the Bulgarian waters of the Black Sea - Black Sea MAP. The first part of the film was screened in the open space of the Center for Openness and Dialogue in the center of Tirana, and the second - in the Ancient Theater of Durres. According to the measures against the spread of COVID-19, the screenings were attended by a limited number of people, including representatives of the scientific community, diplomats and students.
Before the screenings, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Tirana, Mr. Momchil Raichevski, briefly presented the specifics of underwater research in the Black Sea which is why it is considered the largest underwater museum in the world. A video address by Dr. Kalin Dimitrov, archaeologist at the National Archaeological Museum (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) and long-time director of the Center for Underwater Archaeology in Sozopol, was broadcasted to the audience. As a scientific supervisor on the Bulgarian side of the Black Sea MAP, Dr. Dimitrov presented the scientific achievements of the project, which involved scientists from more than 10 countries, as well as the impressive discoveries of ancient ships at the bottom of the Black Sea. The first edition of the European Archaeological Festival is organized as part of the Archeovision - back to the future project of the EUNIC cluster in Tirana, to which the Embassy was accepted as an associate member at the end of 2020. The Bulgarian participation in the project was carried out with the assistance of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
