Bulgarian Participation in Upcoming Cultural Events in Slovenia

Bulgarian artists and institutions from various fields of art and culture will be guests at events during the summer and autumn seasons in Slovenia. Some of the events coincide with the period of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2021.

On May 25 this year An exhibition on the Nonumen project will be opened at the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO) in Ljubljana, with the participation of Slovenia, Bulgaria (represented by the House of Humor and Satire Museum in Gabrovo), Austria, Cyprus, Serbia and the Czech Republic. The initiative examines monuments and architectural and industrial sites from Central and Eastern Europe that lost their value and role in the 20th century. Through interactive media, visitors will be able to get acquainted with the activities of the Buzludzha Foundation for the restoration of mosaics and other works of art in the notorious monument in our country. Nonument: Field Exhibition, which can be viewed until July 27, focuses on the subtle boundary between architecture, art, memory and cultural heritage.

The young conductor Donka Miteva will perform during the largest choral festival on the continent Europa Cantat, hosted by Slovenia from 16 to 25 July. The event under the honorary patronage of President Borut Pahor coincides with the beginning of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Currently, the winner of the award for best conductor at the festival in Varna in 2014 D. Miteva is artistic director and conductor of the Collegium Musicum in Berlin. The concert under her direction is scheduled to take place in Ljubljana on July 22nd.

The audience of the 69th International Summer Festival Ljubljana (July-September) will have the opportunity to enjoy the performances of the world-famous opera prima from Bulgaria Sonya Yoncheva. On July 27 at 9 pm on Congress Square, the star will perform a concert with opera arias - together with Slovenian tenor Branko Robinsak and accompanied by the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra from Ljubljana under the direction of Italian Francesco Clampé.

The director of the City Art Gallery - Blagoevgrad Ivan Milushev has been chosen to participate in the 4th International Watercolor Festival "Castra", which will take place in the town of Aidoushina (in southwestern Slovenia) from August 28 to October 9. The artist returned to the Lokare Gallery in Aidoushina three years after he was awarded at the related festival "Mini Castra". His new works will be on view as part of the accompanying exhibition in the city until the end of the biennial festival. And this time it is organized with the support of the Slovenian branch of the World Watercolor Association (IWS Globe).

In the first half of November, the Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theater from Varna is scheduled to visit the Slovenian Drama Week. The 51st edition of the festival, traditionally held in March at the Prešeren Theater in Kranj, has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The troupe will perform "Vladimir" based on the text of the same name by renowned contemporary Slovenian playwright Matthias Zupancic. The play, directed by Nikolay Kenarov, is included in the accompanying program of the "Week".

The embassy reminds that until May 21, inclusive, lovers of photographic art can visit the exhibition of Eli Joteva at the Photon Gallery in Ljubljana. The interdisciplinary artist presents herself in the series "Author's Dialogue" together with the Slovenian photographer Josch Dolinsek. The two innovative photographers have won awards from the Photon competition under the motto "Different Worlds" in the last two years.

The organizers announce that all upcoming events will take place in compliance with anti-epidemiological measures in Slovenia.
