Bulgarian Participation in the Ice Festival in Harbin

19/02/21

Bulgaria was represented in this year's 22nd edition of the Ice Festival in Harbin with an ice configuration of sculptures "Sea of Roses" with impressive scale and a light show with flowing colors.

The theme of this year's edition of the traditional festival is "Central and Eastern European countries". Traditionally, the Harbin Ice Festival begins on January 5 each year and lasts from 50 to 80 days, depending on temperatures and weather. This event has the highest rank in the classification of attractions in China, being in the category "AAAAA", where the five letters mention the importance of the place or event for the preservation of Chinese cultural heritage and serve as an important reference point for domestic tourism.

Visiting the festival during the Chinese New Year weekend is a traditional route for the holiday, and every year people from all over the country flock to Harbin to see the figures. Unfortunately, in connection with the COVID pandemic, the audience can currently see the sculptures only through a thematic video on the configurations for the 17 CEE countries.

The first part of the video was published on the occasion of the Chinese New Year by the Harbin Municipality International Relations Office on the social platforms Tik Tok (Dowin) and Wichat. The Bulgarian sculpture has the longest time in the presentation. It catches the eye with the change of colors in a light show and stands out with the choice of the cultural aspect to represent our country, as opposed to the choice of buildings by other CEE countries.
