Exhibition on the occasion of Day of Sofia in Podgorica -

On the occasion of the holiday of Sofia 17.09.20 and as a sign of good friendly relations between the capitals of the two countries, the Bulgarian Embassy in Montenegro organized the presentation of the exhibition "The City of the Balkans: Spaces, Images, Memory in Postcards", prepared by the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Centre for Thracology BAS within the National Scientific Program "Cultural and Historical Heritage, National Memory and Social Development", funded by the Ministry of Education and Science.

The exhibition contains postcards from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the digital age. At that time, postcards were the most popular and accessible form of reflection of iconic spaces, events and images of the urban landscape. The exhibition presents the diversity of culture in the capitals and smaller cities of the Balkans, their atmosphere and historical memory.

The postcard billboard shows ancient monuments, railway stations, people, castles and palaces, fortresses, towers, modern boulevards, bridges, educational institutions, public views, operas and theaters, markets, monuments, squares, portals and arches, ports, representative buildings, trams, factories, fountains and fountains, temples, events. Among the cities presented in the exhibition are Athens, Belgrade, Bucharest, Podgorica, Kotor, Cetinje, Bar, Burgas, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Mostar, Nis, Sarajevo, Skopje, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Constantinople and others.

The opening of the exhibition was made by the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Montenegro Dr. Meglena Plugchieva and the Mayor of Podgorica Ivan Vukovic. Prof. Rumyana Preshlenova, director of the Institute of Balkan Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, arrived in Podgorica especially for the opening and presented the exhibition.

In her welcoming speech, Ambassador Plugchieva noted that the motto of our capital "Grows but does not grow old" should also apply to our partnership, friendly relations and good neighborliness between the Balkan countries.

The exhibition remains for viewing by the residents and guests of Podgorica until September 27.
