Poster Exhibition 'Molière without Borders'

29/03/17

The international poster exhibition "Molière Without Borders" will be presented by the State Institute for Culture in partnership with the International Triennial of the Stage Poster Sofia on March 30 at 6pm at the Mission Gallery.

A selection of about 30 posters will be exhibited in the gallery on the occasion of International Theatre Day and the International Month of Francophonie.

In 2017, the 395th anniversary of the birth of French playwright Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Molière, is being celebrated. On this occasion, the International Triennial of the Stage Poster initiated a project devoted to the creativity of the great playwright and master of comedy.

The collection consists of more than 50 posters. Some of them were specially created for the specific occasion, while others are part of the rich collection of the Triennale. Represented are works by some of the most prominent Bulgarian and foreign masters of the poster, including Assen Stareyshinski  and Stefan Despodov (Bulgaria), Stephan Bundi (Switzerland), Tomasz Bogusławski and Piotr Depta (Poland), Vladimir Terentiev and Toreev Yuri (Belarus).

With the desire to engage a wide circle of young Bulgarian poster artists, the International Triennal approached five established contemporary artists (participants in and award-winners at the Triennal): Alexandra Gogova, Dimitar Traychev, Kapka Kuneva, Kostadin Otonov and Hristofor Krustev, who as mentors involved their colleages and alumni. In this way, the project brings together works by young artists, including students and pupils from art schools in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna.

The exhibition "Molière without Borders" is an open project that is set to grow. The showing at the Mission Gallery launches the European tour of the international poster selection
